Endurance Part 3, Chapter 4 to Part 4, Chapter 1

Important Quote: "At twelve-forty, Shackleton gave the order in a quiet voice. 'Launch the boats.' (138)."

Lit Term: Exclamatory Sentence- " 'Crack!' he shouted. 'Crack! Lash up and stow!' (128). "

Discussion: Now that the crew is aboard the three emergency boats, they head for open water toward land. They do not care which island they land on, just as long as they all survive to make it to one. I see this as a turn of fortune for the crew. They had been stranded on ocean camp, mark time camp , and patience camp and now they make their move for the big escape. I would have been thrilled to know that I was getting off the ice flow. Leaving the ice flow is like leaving your personal comfort zone. You made a move and cannot go back. Shackleton now must carry his crew through the unforgiving sea until they reach safety.
